BOOST led efforts to celebrate National Career Development Week using the National Career Development Association’s platform to increase the focus on career development.  Leaders in business, industry, government, and education have recently acknowledged the deficiencies that limited resources and attention to career development has had on our society. “Career development has become the black hole in the paradigm that governs our approach to education. The costs of this neglect are staggering – both for young adults, many of whom end up unemployed or underemployed; and for American businesses, who are so often constrained by shortages of skilled workers.”

Need Extra Income

Need Extra Income

As I was shopping this week, I heard over the intercom that the store I was visiting was hiring extra help for the holidays.  I immediately thought about BOOST students.  Many students are looking to make extra income, especially after Hurricane Matthew.  Many retail stores in our area are hiring temporary workers for the Christmas Holiday season.  Many of these position will result in a permanent position.  I am currently working on a list of companies that will be hiring seasonal help and this list will be shared with students.  If you are interested in earning extra income and would like to apprly for one of these positions, please contact Patricia Locklear.

Balancing College and Your Life

Balancing College and Your Life

 As a college student, the demands are high.  Homework, studying for exams, labs, and clinicals take a large portion of your time.  On top of that, add the pressure applied to make the academic grades needed to be accepted into advanced studies.  Then add being a parent, a spouse, a caregiver, and/or working to pay the bills and then as a student you may find yourself being pulled in many directions.  Too much to do and not enough time to get it all done.  Many students struggle to find the balance between school, work, family, and social life.  Listed below are some tips to assist you in finding the right balance.

Are you looking for employment and find you need a resume?  Does your current resume need updating?  Would you like for someone to review your resume?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this workshop is for YOU! With over 20 years of Human Resources experience, the instructor will provide samples of resumes, tips for effective resumes, and provide one-on-one appointments to assist you in creating your resume.  Come join us on Thursday, April 21, 2016 in Room 1749B, Building 17 from 3:00 pm to 4:00pm.  If you have a resume, please bring a copy with you.  See you there!
