Seasonal Blahs or More Serious???

Seasonal Blahs or More Serious???

When I began writing this Blog, it was 60 days, 15 hours, 42 minutes, and 26 seconds until Spring 2017! Market Yourself for Professional Success

Market Yourself for Professional Success

Don’t wait until graduation to start networking with future peers and prospective employers.  It is important to introduce the “professional you”.  A career fair is a free resource and a great way to begin marketing yourself.  You will have the opportunity to learn about new companies, get career advice, and experience the equivalent of getting your foot in the door.  A career fair is an occasion to make personal connections with potential employers, and to showcase your skills as a great investment for a company.

You can prepare for the career fair by having your resume reviewed,  learning about attending employers, practice introducing yourself and your skills,  and make a list of sample questions to ask employers.

Every Course Grade Counts!

Every Course Grade Counts!

To apply for an advanced health science program at Robeson Community College, students must successfully complete the required prerequisite coursework, and meet the required minimum GPA. It is a competitive process, so focus on good grades from the start; if you fall behind, it can be difficult to recover.  Good grades in challenging courses are an indication of your dedication to school, your ability to keep it (school, home, work) together, and how well you will perform in an advanced program.  It is important to understand and chart the most direct path leading to your eligibility to formally apply to the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Emergency Medical Science (EMS)Practical Nursing - a nurse aide program, Radiography, or Respiratory Therapy programs.

BOOST Performance

BOOST Performance

In a Fall survey, the BOOST program at Robeson Community College showed very positive results.  The survey was initiated and managed by Midlands Community College in South Carolina, the lead college in the six-college, multi-state consortium of which Robeson is part of.  In all of the key indicators, Robeson's BOOST program did well, particularly in providing opportunities for traditionally underserved population segments.  While this post has a lot of positive data about BOOST's programs, comments by students at the bottom of this post tell first-hand how they have been helped.

CNAs need to stay in mint condition, too

CNAs need to stay in mint condition, too

The BOOST staff observed National Nursing Assistant Week the week of June 11 – 18, 2015 through a number of events scheduled throughout the week.  Monday, June15 was branded Mental Health Monday to recognize the heavy burden of care and responsibility placed on CNAs, and to provide them with ways to avoid burnout by refreshing themselves.

Baskets of mint candies and flyers were delivered to three area-nursing facilities and one Hospice provider to encourage approximately 150 nursing assistants to Stay in Mint Condition by participating in meaningful activities.  The reminder is that it is better to prevent burnout than to react to it.  CNAs you are important, and your work matters!
