BOOST Spring 2017 Cohort

BOOST is excited to welcome the 7th and final cohort of participants under the BOOST TAACCCT grant.  BOOST staff worked tirelessly to recruit 58 new BOOST participants enabling the grant to exceed it's expected total outcome of 336.  We are looking forward to continuing to serve students and support faculty in the new year.  Congratulations and welcome to the new Spring 2017 cohort and all returning students.

Robeson Community College has accepted 49 new students for the Fall 2015 BOOST cohort. This exceeds the ambitious target goal set by the grant. 

Students in the Fall cohort are encouraged to adhere to BOOST Core values of academic integrity, professionalism and personal accountability as they pursue new pathways to healthcare careers.

You're Invited!  BOOST Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Health Science Open House

Robeson Community College is excited to launch the opening of a new state of the art Medical Simulation Center.  An official invitation is available for download HERE.

The center is a result of the US Department of Labor TAACCCT initiative, BOOST, Better Occupational Outcomes with Simulation Training. Through strategic partnerships with the BOOST Consortium and Healthcare Simulation South Carolina the college has expanded existing simulation capabilities. The newly renovated space provides two Cooperative Learning Simulation Skills Training Rooms along with High Fidelity Simulation and Control Rooms.

Join us as we celebrate the beginning of an exciting journey that will lead to advanced training and skills mastery for our health science students and incumbent workers.  *Ribbon Cutting Ceremony hosted by the Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce.

BOOST Joins Rapid Response Team - Plant Closing

BOOST Health Science Admissions Coordinator, Debbie Branch, joined the county's Rapid Response Team and met with employees of Tradegar.  Plant closure is expected mid-2014, learn more http://www.fayobserver.com/news/business/article_85b9fde6-2950-5e21-b084-abae5d003735.html.  Mrs. Branch was able to share benefits of the BOOST program for employees considering healthcare as a new career option.  The BOOST program will offer new students with limited healthcare experience the opportunity gain and master new skills.  Primary features of the program include the use of simulation, 3D/VR, and wrap around support services.  The meeting was extremely successful providing an opportunity to reach one of the grant's target audience.

Robeson Community College part of a 2nd TAACCCT workforce development grant

The US Department of Labor announced its fourth found of TAACCCT workforce development grants. In the list was Robeson Community College as part of a multi-state consortium providing specialized training for the healthcare sector.  The consortium comprises three colleges in South Carolina, two in Alabama and Robeson.  The grant, called BOOST, an acronym short for Better Occupational Outcomes with Simulation Training will use 3D simulation training in labs on the college campus.  With 3D tech, students will be able to get simulated hands-on experience that would otherwise be unavailable to them.

Vanessa Cogdell joins BOOST

Vanessa Cogdell joins BOOST

Vanessa Cogdell is the Director of the BOOST grant at Robeson Community College.  She joined Robeson Community College's staff at the start of February 2014.  She has over 17 years of student service and grant management experience.  Her work experience has included directing 2 US Department Labor TACCCT grants, student counseling, disability services, military outreach, federal grant reviews and serving as the Director of Financial Aid and Veterans Services. Ms. Cogdell is passionate about college access and looks forward to assisting students as they pursue new allied health career pathways.
